Skeletal System By: Payton Your skeletal system is what holds your body together. It is like the frame of a building or the legs on a table. Without it, you’d be a puddle of blood, skin, and organs on the floor. In addition to supporting your body, the bones in your body make red blood cells. Well, actually your bone marrow makes the blood cells. Bone marrow is soft, and jelly-like. Your bones also have blood vessels, nerves, capillaries, compact bone and “spongy” bone.
Some fun facts about bones are: 1. There are 300-350 bones in a baby’s body but by the time that baby is an adult it has 206-208 bones in its body. The reason why an adult has less bones is because as you grow up, your bones fuse together to form larger, more complex bones. 2. Your bones are alive. They have cells and they age with you. Old bones are brittle and weak, while young bones are strong. 3. Calcium strengthens your bones. That means that if you drink a lot of milk or orange juice you will have stronger bones.
