Homeostasis
By Paisley
Homeostasis is the act of being at a state of internal and external equilibrium. The hypothalamus, a part of the brain that controls temperature, pituitary gland, a part of the brain that controls temperature, lungs, a part for the respiratory system that collects oxygen to be distributed into the bloodstream, skin, a part of the integumentary system that controls what enters and leaves the body, muscles, part of the muscular system that contracts and helps you move, kidneys, which remove wastes from your blood, liver, which removes toxins from the body, and the pancreas, which contains digestive enzymes, are all part of homeostasis. Dehydration, kidney failure, and liver failure are all homeostasis disorders.

Three interesting facts:
- Homeostatic imbalances like a high temperature or lack of oxygen can lead to motivated behavior to restore homeostasis, in this case it would be sweating, taking off a jacket and breathlessness.
- When Your hair stands on end it is actually trapping a layer of air next to your skin creating an insulating layer.
- When you look red when you are hot, it is because your capillaries are bringing blood closer to the surface of your skin so more heat can be lost.
