The Circulatory System-
The Heart is a muscular pumping organ located next to the lungs, it is a big part of the circulatory system. This is a system to keep a smooth stream of blood flow.
- Blood Vessels are the body's highways that allow blood to flow quickly and efficiently from the heart to every region of the body and back again. The size of the blood vessel corresponds with the amount of blood passing through them. There are three different types of blood vessels: arteries, capillaries, and veins. Blood vessels are often named after the region of the body their mostly located.
- Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart. Blood carried by arteries is usually very oxygenated. Arteries can face high levels of blood pressure because they carry the blood being pushed out of the heart.
- Capillaries are the thinnest and smallest blood vessels in a body and are most common. They can be found in almost every tissue through out the body. Capillaries connect to arteries on one and veins on the other. Capillaries carry blood very close to cells of the tissues of the body so they can exchange gases, nutrients, and waste products.
- Veins are the large return vessels of the body, and make blood return counter parts of arteries Because the arteries ,arterioles ,and capillaries absorb most of the force or the heart's contractions, veins and venules are subjected to very low blood pressures. The lack of pressure will make the walls of veins to be thinner, less elastic ,and less muscular than the walls of arteries. The veins rely on gravity, inertia, and force of the skeletal muscle contraction pushes the blood closer to the heart.
- The average human holds four to five liters of blood in their body. Our blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and liquid plasma to make our body function properly.
- The circulatory system works in close with the digestive system to get the absorbed nutrients distributed through the body. The respiratory system also works in close to the circulatory because the heart is close to the lungs so the air is transferred to the heart where all the blood is pushed through out the whole body.
Some interesting facts are-
- If you were to lay down all of the arteries, capillaries and veins in one adult from end to end they would stretch about 60,000 miles.
- Capillaries are the size of about 8 microns (1/3000 inch) in diameter, or about a tenth of the diameter of a human hair.
- The heart actually can still beat after being removed from the body.
- Some disorders are-
- This system can be damaged or injured easily.
- Blood clots are common
- Many diseases can be caught in the circulatory system. By: Wyatt
